U-Mary Looks for 3-Peat | Video

Scott Westerburg | 2/19/2013

The U-Mary women figure to once again be in the mix for the Northern Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend. The Marauders have won the last two conference titles. The women may not run away with it like they did last year, but a 3-peat is certainly a possibility.

"Probably a little more parity this year. Obviously, we`re not as good as we were last year, but you`re not going to have many years like we did last year with our women, but we still think if we can do what we are capable of doing we`re going to have a shot at another conference championship," said head coach Mike Thorson.

"We`ve been in this position many times before and we need to take that pressure and use it to our advantage and use it to benefit you in any way possible. We`ve been in that position in national cross country and national track, so we want to use that pressure and use it toward a positive," said senior captain Alicia Nehl.

For the fifth straight week, the women have the track athlete of the week in the Northern Sun. This time it`s sprinter Brittney McKinley. The junior won the 60-meter dash at the University of Minnesota Open on Saturday in provisional qualifying time of 7.86. McKinley also placed fourth in the 60-hurdles.
