Century Prepares for Tournament | Video

Lee Timmerman | 2/11/2013

Century earned the number one seed for this week`s West Region hockey tournament and the Patriots will find out who they play tonight. Hazen-Beulah travels to Williston, with the winner being the eight seed.

The Patriots finished two points better than Minot in the conference standings. Head Coach Troy Olson says they`ve been solid 5-on-5 but the special teams need a little tweaking before the tournament.

"Basically we`re just not taking care of the front of the net very well. Against Davies we gave up two shorthanded goals when which we haven`t done all year so very uncharacteristic of us but at the same time it`s a glaring area we need to do some work on."

Century is 15-6 overall after finishing with wins over Bismarck and Bottineau, but those victories came right after back to back non-conference losses.

"We have a little bit of trouble with consistency and that will be a big factor in our games but if we can pull that off we should be good to go," said senior defenseman Nash Anderson.

The West Region teams will be going to Minot for the tournament, which begins on Thursday.

Again, Century opens the event at 11:00 in the morning. Bottineau dropped to the four seed. The Midgets will go for the upset against Minot. While it`s Bismarck against Mandan in the final first round game.
