Until recently, patients in Dickinson have had to make an appointment and wait to see a doctor. But now, a new service gives them the chance to see a doctor the same day.
"The need is out here. With the different changes to peoples schedules and stuff like that, you know we see it as a way that society is going to so for the better of our patients and their conveniences we are offering those services," said clinic administrator Jeremiah Lindgren.
The clinic is still adjusting to this new service but says it will benefit everyone in the long run.
"There will be a little bit of growing pains because we haven`t had this service before. So there are things; we are working on work flows and communication issues, things like that. But I think it`ll overall be good for the clinic. Get more a patient base coming in here also," Lindgren said.
Sanford offers more than 20 local health experts and specialists who can take care of patients in a timely fashion.
"There`s only one provider currently here who`s not a physician but she`s a nurse practitioner and every other day of the week it`ll be a doctor on call for walk-ins. It`s also important to know you can still see your primary care doctors if you want to walk-in. If they have that slot they`ll still see you. So there is that option as opposed to seeing a walk-in doctor," said family medicine physician Heather Martin.
Sanford has plans to have an entire wing dedicated to walk-in patients in its new super clinic which is set to open in Summer of 2014
The walk-in services began on March 4. The clinic is open from 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, and 9:00 to noon on Saturdays.
