Donít Buy It, Until We Try It: My Lilí Pie Maker | VideoAmy Fox | 3/16/2013
If youíre like me, you probably like a good pie. But, buying them at the bakery can be pretty expensive. And, making them yourself can take time. Well, this may be a better option for you. Itís called My Lilí Pie Maker and the pan helps you make four little pies.
But, will it actually make life in the kitchen a little easier? Well, ďDonít Buy It, Until We Try It.Ē
They come in all fruits and toppings. "We hardly keep them in stock. When we put them out, they`re gone. So, a couple of days and we`re ready to make them again,Ē said Shawndra Blankenship, MarketPlace Bakery Department.
And, now they come in even the smallest of sizes.
"I think this could probably be for everybody,Ē said Blankenship. ďIt looks pretty easy. I don`t know we`ll see what we`re getting once we get into it."
My Lil` Pie Maker sells for around $10. It promises to make lil` pies in just minutes. We just pulled everything out of the box and there are a lot of different pieces that go along with it. Not really sure what to do with everything. Guess it`s time to pick up the instruction booklet and see what it says.
Once we had the pie maker set up, it was time to get started. We put the oven on 450 degrees and started with some pre-made pie crust. We used the bottom cutter to create the base for the pies. Then, it was time to put them in the pan.
"It fits nicely, by the way," said Blankenship.
Once we had all of crust in place, it was time to put the cherry filling in. On two of the lil pies we also used the top cutter to make tops for the pies.
"We`ll just fold it under and just leave it."
We added butter for a golden brown crust. Finally, it was time to bake for about 20 minutes.
When timer went off, we pulled My Lilí Pie Maker out of the oven.
"It says to let them cool for 2-3 minutes," said Blankenship.
You`ll notice the two with the crust on top came out easily. But, the two without, well, we had a little trouble.
"It`s an awesome product,Ē said Blankenship. ďAnd, the kids are going to love it. Just let your pie crust cool before you take them out of the tray."
We just got done putting My Lilí Pie Maker in the dishwasher and it looks like brand new. The one thing you need to keep in mind is the pan is pretty flimsy. I would recommend putting a cookie sheet underneath for extra support. And, it seemed to work better when we put the dough on top of the pies. But, it was fast and easy just like they advertise on TV.
So, this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
