Water Depot East of Dickinson Gives Drivers Another Option | Video

Jason Dumas | 3/15/2013

There may be a solution to all the truck traffic in downtown Dickinson. Earlier this week we reported that the water depot in downtown Dickinson was causing too much traffic in the area. An idea was proposed to build another depot east of town, but apparently there already is one.

Truckers who want to avoid driving through the city of Dickinson to fill up with water have another option that they just may have not known about. Southwest Water Authority owns a raw water depot just east of town along Highway 10 with close access to I-94. It has been operation since June of 2012 but it sees significantly less activity than the depot in the downtown area.

"There are times generally when I drive by and the depot is empty. There are zero trucks there," said Southwest Water Authority Manager/CEO Mary Massad.

There is no definitive for the lack of activity at this depot. It could be that drivers aren`t aware of this depot or that many just go to the other one out of habit. But it is easy to set up an account with Southwest. Just contact the office and drivers will be provided with PIN numbers to have access to the pumps. The depot is very accommodating.

"There`s a lot of room. There`s two fill stations at that location and it could be more utilized and alleviate truck traffic though Dickinson," Massad said.

This depot also has a bathroom, which many drivers have said is handy.

Southwest Water Authority has worked closely with city officials as far as locating this depot in order to have the least effect on the community.
