Women Veterans Month | Video

Jennifer Joas | 3/7/2013

Several women veterans, as well as those still serving, gathered at the Capitol today in honor of Women Veterans Month. Governor Jack Dalrymple signed a proclamation declaring March Womens Veterans Month in the state. He also passed out medals and flowers to all the women veterans in attendance.

One veteran says she values these times when women receive recognition in such a male dominated field.

"There`s a lot of women that have sacrificed a lot and worked without pay in the beginning to open doors so that all women can serve in any profession in any career that they want to," said Lila Teunissen, National Guard Operations Officer.

There are currently more than 550 women serving in the North Dakota Army National Guard, and 200 women in the state`s Air National Guard.
