Race for Education | Video

Because private schools don`t receive government funding, they need to come up with creative ways to raise money. A lot of schools sell pizza and candy to get cash, but one school is taking a healthy approach to fund raising.

Everyone from St. Anne School is racing for education: preschoolers, eighth graders, parents, there`s even a guy with crutches.

This is the seventh year the St. Anne PTO has sponsored the event

"We begin back in January and incorporate letter writing into it and they really look forward to this day and they get out here for one hour and really enjoy it," said principal Cori Hilzendeger.

Students have one hour to get in as many laps as possible.

`We run around the track and the people that sponsor us, they would give us money for laps and it would support our school for stuff like new laptops," said fifth grader Ian Funk.

"They get a little red-faced but they enjoy themselves and are excited," Hilzendeger said.

Because they like it, they know it`s good for them, and it helps their school. There`s also something in it for them.

If we make our goal we get to have a fun day out here and get to do a lot of fun stuff like soccer and kickball and stuff," said third grader Claire Vetter.

They made it and so they will get to go back to the U-Mary field house this spring to celebrate.

This is the fifth year the University of Mary has partnered with the PTO to host the event.
