Amy Fox | 3/1/2013

More than 800 Firefighters from across the state are in Minot for the 59th Annual North Dakota State Fire School. By law, North Dakota is required to put on a state fire fighter school each year.

From basic hose skills to live burns, new and veteran firefighters are getting hands-on training in real life situations to help them out in the field.

"You need to when that tone goes off, when the bell rings; you need to be on your best game. And, we are hoping the classes we are providing are the beginning training isn`t a one time a year thing. It has to be a continuing progress throughout the year,” said North Dakota Firefighters Association Training Director Rob Knuth.

All of the fire school training is free to firefighters thanks to the Work Force Safety Grant. Training will wrap up on Sunday afternoon.
