Big Donation for Red Cross | Video

Last year, the Red Cross helped 170 western North Dakota residents affected by hardships, and thanks to a new partnership, the organization will be able to help many more in the years to come.

North Dakota is growing at an unprecedented rate, unfortunately the amount of assistance that people need has increased as well. Groups like the Red Cross want to be ready to help those in need.

“We need to equip ourselves and be ready to help and assist and react to all the need due to that demanding growth,” said Regional Director Judy Green.

“Every day, almost seven days a week, something happens. Single family fires, windstorms, minor flooding, that sort of thing. So we`re helping people in communities all the way across Northwestern North Dakota,” added Executive Director Alan McGeough.

To help the Red Cross with their mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering, a group of companies spear headed by Border States Electric has donated $56,000 to the Red-Cross Minn-Kota Branch.

“As corporate citizens it`s the least we could do to help them with this endeavor, and I felt really proud of the fact that we were able to step up and get it accomplished together as a group,” said Jason Stein, the Regional VP for Border States Electric.

The money will be used to buy new vehicles, supplies, disaster response trailers, and training for their workers and volunteers.

“This donation is going to help us to be more effective and to help people train our volunteers, get the supplies and all the things we need to help people who`ve been affected by disasters of all types,” said McGeough.

“We aspire to turn compassion into action. We do that so all people affected by disasters, locally, regionally, across our nation, and around the world, well receive care hope and shelter.” stated Green.

In 2012 alone, the Red Cross assisted 168 individuals and families in Western North Dakota. While they wished their services were no longer needed, they know the importance of being ready to assist with any hardship or disaster.

The Red Cross is a non-profit organization, and every cent they use to help people comes from local donations.
