Tech Talk: LevALERT | Video

While there are tools to help producers monitor things like moisture inside of their grain bins, getting an idea of how much grain is stored in each bin can be more difficult.

"Just climb up and check em," said Kyle Rzaszvtak from Carrington.

"Oh, I think there`s been a number of methods along the way. A lot of climbing and tapping on the side of the grain bins. Throwing rocks at the grain bins, listening for the sound," said Jason Sjostrom with Ideal Systems.

The LevALERT bin monitoring system claims to let producers get an idea of what`s inside each bin while keeping two feet on the ground.

"The actuator inside, as the grain level fills against it, it presses against the system, causing the cylinder to flip over," Sjostrom said.

Before this technology was available, checking grain bins was often dangerous and time consuming.

"Well, the least times he goes up and down those bins, the least chance he has of actually slipping or making a mistake and falling," Sjostrom said.

Producers can also attach an alarm to the system to warn them if the bin is too full.>
