Jury Finds Kalmio Guilty | Video

Julie Leonardi | 2/4/2013

The jury in the Omar Kalmio murder trial has reached a verdict, Kalmio is found guilty on all four counts. It only took the jury three hours to make a decision.

Closing statements began this morning, State Prosecutor Kelly Dillon used a Power Point presentation to refresh the jury on the circumstantial evidence that was provided last week, saying Kalmio had the motive to commit the crime, and plenty of time to do it. She believes the crime was a personal attack on his girlfriend at the time and her family.

“Somebody had to look her in the eye, cut her throat, and shoot her in the face. Somebody hated her enough to look her in the eye and shoot her in the face.”

Defense Attorney Tom Glass argued his case, saying the witnesses were not credible, and Kalmio couldn’t be in Minot during the time of the murders.

“But I think it’s important that these timelines that people are giving law enforcement just don’t match up. They just can’t. It’s impossible to be in Williston and then in Minot in the short amount of time they’re talking.”

Then, it was the jury’s turn to weigh in. The verdict was unanimous on every count, for the murder of Sabrina Zephier, Jolene Zephier, Dillon Zephier and Jeremy Longie.

Each count was a AA felony, with a maximum sentence of life behind bars. No word yet on a sentencing date, or whether or not the defense plans an appeal.
