Legion Conference

Rene Thibault | 2/2/2013
The nation`s largest veterans organization is in Minot this weekend. The American Legion`s North Dakota chapter is holding their annual winter conference in the Magic City. Veterans of all ages are meeting to discuss the state of their organization, updates on Legislation for Veterans and Legion baseball leagues.

The group has had speakers from across the country, but the biggest highlight of the weekend has been a donation made by AT&T to the Legion`s Boys and Girls State.

“It’s an example of a corporate sponsor who says you guys are doing great things and we want to be a part of it, we want to support it. So they donated $2,500 to our North Dakota Auxiliary Girls State Program and $2,500 to our North Dakota Boys State program,” said ND Department Commander David Rice.

“This program is a basis for your young adults to learn about government and to get a hands-on idea of what it is like to go through election processes, to set up a city. This is a very instrumental learning process as they go forward into life,” added ND Auxiliary President Linda Juntunen.

The Legion`s Winter Conference ends Sunday morning. The North Dakota Chapter`s next conference will be held in Williston in June.
