Omar Kalmio Murder Trial Continues | Video

Julie Leonardi | 1/31/2013

Day four of the Omar Kalmio trial began this morning. Kalmio is being charged with the murder of Sabrina Zephier and three other people. So far, 50 witnesses have testified in the quadruple murder trial. Five new witnesses were brought in Thursday morning.

Cherry Dupray, who was in the Ward County Jail in 2011, said a man in the neighboring cell identified himself as Mike Cooper. Then Sabrina Zephier’s roommate, Elizabeth Lambert entered the cell and instantly recognized the voice. “He said I don’t know who that is, but he did what he had to do.”

Two inmates at Ward County jail were called to testify. Their faces could not be shown. One witness spoke with Kalmio while he was detained back in 2011. He said Kalmio told him he wanted to get custody of his baby, and then admitted to the murders.

Defense attorney Kerry Rosenquist tried to prove that the witness was only making up a story so he could get an early release date.

Right now, circumstantial evidence may be the only form of evidence to convict Kalmio of the murders.
