Homes up for Bid | Video

Rene Thibault | 1/30/2013

People looking for a home "fixer-upper" project will have a few new options soon. Minot`s Community Development Block Grant Committee met earlier today and agreed to put flood damaged homes up for bid.

The structures up for bid are located along the Mouse River, within the area a new levee will eventually be built, so some will have to be moved. The homes are currently being assessed and tested for hazardous materials, like mold and asbestos.

“It`s just the next step in order to complete the homes acquisition process, and also to maybe offer some housing for this area, because we do have such a housing shortage, that we might be able to offer a little more cheaper homes for people. But the key is that they`ll have to come in and move it themselves,” said Amanda Schooling, Ward County’s Emergency Management Director.

The plan will be brought to the Ward County Commissioners next week for final approval. The committee expects there will be between 20 to 30 homes put up for bid.
