Sub-Station Energizes SW Minot | Video

Rene Thibault | 12/11/2012

Stability is on the way for the energy grid in one of the city`s fastest growing areas. Central Power Electric Co-Op`s (CPEC) Southwest Sub station is almost finished. It will be the third sub-station for the Magic City.

The sites take raw energy from Basin Electric in Bismark and convert it into usable energy for Minot residents. The nine million dollar project will be important to the city for years to come.

“This third sub station is a very important sub station in Minot. It`s going to provide capacity for many years into the future, to serve an incredibly fast growing load here in the Minot area. It`s going to provide redundancy for our other area bulk-transmission sub stations, if we should have a problem, or if we need to take something down for maintenance. It`s going to be a very good sub-station to have online”, said CPEC engineering manager Mark Sherman.

Central Power will have the southwest site fully operational by the end of the month.
