Text Message Celebrates 20 Years | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 12/6/2012

The text message is now 20 years old. O.M.G. The first ever text message was sent on December 3, 1992 by a software engineer, Neil Papworth. The text simply said: "Merry Christmas." And 20 years later, the world of texting and shorting message service is still a trending form of communication. And it`s still growing.

Damin Kinchen at Cell Solutions says that even some cell phones have the option of voice recording your text message, so you don`t even have to press the buttons.

"I would say text messaging has become a much bigger deal then actually talking on the phone, pretty soon that`s what is going to be going on. No more talking."

Just a little something to pass along to your BFF.
