Fugitive Arrested in Bismarck | Video

Retha Colclasure | 12/5/2012

Bismarck police captured a wanted fugitive who they say shot at a deputy and kidnapped a woman in Idaho. Shortly after noon Wednesday, a truck driver was getting back into his rig at the Oasis truck stop, and found Mitchell Walck inside his truck. He says Walck threatened him with a gun and ran to a nearby mobile home park.

"Fortunately there was a witness that was alert at the scene that was able to direct responding officers to the area where he was seen so we were able to set up a perimeter with numerous police officers and searched the area and found him hiding underneath a pine tree. We called him out from under the tree and he gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident," said Sgt. Mark Buschena with the Bismarck police.

Police say Waleck had a 9 millimeter handgun in his waistband. He was also arrested for unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, terrorizing, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The stolen Subaru that belonged to the kidnapping victim was also recovered in the area. Walck released the Idaho woman in Montana.
