Outdoor Ice Rinks on the Way | Video

Minot`s skaters will soon be able to hit the ice on the city`s outdoor rinks. The Minot Recreation Commission is gearing up for the opening of their rinks at Roosevelt School and Polaris Park. Each location will have a hockey rink, and a pleasure rink for regular skating.

Last year, an estimated 3,000 kids visited the outdoor parks. Corbett Field rink is still damaged from the flood and will stay closed this season. If the demand goes up, so will the number of skating rinks, “As the need grows, if we become a bigger city like they say we`re going to be, maybe we`re going to be building more rinks, I think that generates what we do here, we don`t every want to loose facilities, but we also want to keep it cost effective for everybody, so it`s kind of give and take thing,” said Scott Collins, the Director of the Minot Recreation Commission.

The All Seasons Arena is also offering 30 days of free skating during the outdoor season. All of the rinks officially open December 15.
