Bread Poets Expansion | Video

Joel Porter | 7/23/2012

A bakery in downtown Bismarck is looking to expand this summer. Bread Poets, which opened in 1998, is planning on adding nearly 1,300 square feet by expanding in the lot east of the building.

Owners say after 14 years, they`ve outgrown the space and require more space to fill orders. The city commission will consider the $89,000 project at tomorrow`s meeting.

If approved, the owners could break ground in August with plans to finish in October.

"Well, I hope they`re receptive. I think we`ve been a positive influence in the downtown area. Also in the Bismarck market, we`ve got a business plan and a business model that nobody else really has been able to replicate," said owner Jon Lee.

If approved, Bread Poets would also receive more than $23,000 in property tax breaks over the next five years.
