Blood Shortage | Video

Jessica Roose | 7/18/2012

Donating blood could save a life, but as the summer continues, United Blood Service in Bismarck says less blood is coming in. UBS has half the amount of blood on stock that it would like to have.

About 350-pints of blood are used every day in North Dakota. Without donors, there is no way to replenish the stock.

"There is no replacement for whole blood, we only have donors that come in to donate. So without having blood on our shelves here it`s a matter of life. There is no synthetic blood that people can get. It`s not made in the lab. We count on donors to have the blood for people who are in the hospital and need it," said Donor Recruitment Manager Stephanie Radenz.
