Tennis in the Park Day | Video

Joel Porter | 7/17/2012

Kids who don`t know much about tennis had a chance to pick up a racquet this week. Despite the rain, Bismarck Parks and Rec offered a free one-hour lesson as part of Tennis in the Park Day.

Tennis instructors invited families to Sertoma Park, where youngsters learned a few fundamentals. They practiced hand-eye coordination, returning volleys and did a few drills to build quickness.

"If they`ve had the fundamentals growing up, then we can really tell when they go back and start playing again as an adult," head tennis pro Shannon Larson said.

Park staff have given several public tennis courts a facelift this summer, including Sertoma, Hillside and Tom O`Leary.
