New Ramstad School Set for Construction | Video

Amy Fox | 6/29/2012

While ground work at the new site for Ramstad Middle School is underway, the Minot Public School Board is deciding who to hire for the first part of the project.

Today, the Minot Public School Board met to discuss bids for the first phase of construction. After receiving bids from multiple contractors, the school board decided to hire Kraus-Anderson Construction Company.

But, as Minot Public Schools Superintendent Mark Vollmer explained, this is only the first step in the rebuilding process. "This is phase one that evolves the dirt work that needs to be done, concrete tip up walls, or pre-cast walls, a lot of concrete work and all of this."

In addition to approving the Ramstad bid, the school board briefly discussed the preliminary 2012-2013 budget. With taxable evaluations up in Minot, the school board is expecting cuts in impact aid.

Before any big decisions are made, the school board is still waiting for federal program money to come in.

A final budget will be in place by October.
