Minot police officers and the fire department are out for blood, literally. These two organizations are in a friendly battle to get blood donations for the United Blood Services.

Monday through Wednesday, the "Battle of the Badges" is taking place at the Sleep Inn convention center in Minot. Donors can either go for the law enforcement or the fire/rescue teams, and the winner gets bragging rights.

However, many regular donors are showing up because of the more important purpose of donating blood.

"If you`re afraid the first time just go and do it and you`ll find out how easy it is and it really is it`s a wonderful way to give to others who are in need," said Therese Thomas.

The blood drive is at the Sleep Inn from 11:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m., through Wednesday. Last year, the fire/rescue team won the competition.
