North Dakota State was on a national stage Saturday afternoon. The NDSU Bison won their first division one national championship in football. It`s the school`s first football title since 1990. The game was broadcast on ESPN 2.

Hundreds of fans wearing green and gold gathered in Bismarck to watch it live. Even some former players were among the fans at Bismarck`s Elbow Room. They say it`s amazing to see how far the program has come since they left the field.

"It`s been 21 years so we need another one. It`s time to get it back," said Gerry Caya, who was the Bison`s former defensive back from 1968 to 1971.

"It`s unreal to think back when we played the system was completely different. Now the guys have moved in through division two and up into division one and it`s fantastic for the whole program- the whole history of the program," said Mike Ahneman, who played middle linebacker for the Bison from 1965 to 1967.
