| DSU Students showed up in droves today sporting their "Birds of a feather flock together" t-shirts to honor Ashley Neufeld, Kyrstin Gemar, and Afton Williamson, at a memorial service. Despite the tragedy that ended their lives, in addition to tears, the service also included some laughs. The parents of the three softball players who expressed gratitude to the campus and community for their supportiveness and for the family-oriented environment, and the girls teammates and coach say that the team will go on to be stronger than ever with their three extra players. "Just because the three of you are gone today, doesn`t mean we will be starting next year`s season without you," says DSU head softball coach Kristin Fleury. "The three of you will always be our 10th, 11th and 12th players on the field. You will forever be missed and remain in our hearts. We know that you are looking down at us from Heaven. Afton-Ash-Kyrstin-your cleats will be at the home plate of my heart for years to come." DSU has opted to retire the girls numbers to honor them, and President McCallum presented the parents with their daughter`s framed jersey. |
