| ND Pharmacy Law Opponents Kick Off Ballot Quest |

| A campaign to repeal North Dakota`s pharmacy ownership law has kicked off its quest to gather petition signatures. The group called North Dakotans for Lower Prescription Drugs hopes to gather 20,000 signatures by Dec. 30 and put the issue on the statewide ballot next November. North Dakota law now requires pharmacies in the state to have a licensed pharmacist as their majority owner. Bismarck Dr. Eric Thompson, who chairs the group seeking a repeal, says that prevents people from having a choice in where to buy prescription drugs. Supporters of the law worry that a repeal would put smaller, locally-owned pharmacies out of business and hurt small communities by allowing such large chains as Walmart, Target or Walgreens to sell $4 prescriptions. The Legislature defeated an attempt to repeal the law earlier this year. |
