| Plan to dress up the dog for Halloween? Protect your little pirate or big bumblebee from costume and candy traps says Sara Delaney of Ciao Bow Wow in lower Manhattan. She says, "Don`t let them scarf up your kid`s candy. Sugar is very bad for dogs, particularly chocolate." What should you know about costumes before you put your dog in one? "Make sure it fits properly. Not too big so they can trip or too tight," says Delaney. It`s not just about Halloween and costumes, but the health and safety of your pet is a year-round concern. We asked Sara to show us some new products to help you help your pet. Make your dog visible at night with a $20 pet light. Delaney says, "The number one cause of dog injury is being hit by cars." This $30 harness by Kurgo also doubles as a seatbelt for the car. "If your dog is in the car in a fender bender it will go flying the same way a baby does," Delaney says. This Cundles pad for 15-20 dollars helps with aches and pains. The pad heats up in the microwave and cools down in the freezer. "You use the hot part if your dog has an arthritic problem...an older dog with aches and pains in the joints. You use the cold part if your dog has an injury with swelling," she says. This $27 alarm by Terrapin inc will tell you if your pet falls into the pool. This $50 pet temp thermometer takes your dog or cat`s temperature in the ear, not the other end, making things easier for you and your pet. |
