The Incredible Shrinking Speaker | Video
10/22/2009
Imagine speakers as thin as a business card that can be bent or cut into any shape or size from ITRI, a research company based in Taiwan.

It`s called `flexpeaker` and it just won the wall street journal technology innovation award.

"The first question people will ask, how did you do it?" asked reporter Scott Budman.

"This one, we made it by paper, and we insert a very thin film inside two, a pair of electrodes," answered ITRI Director Dr. Ian Chan.

Dr. Chan came to Silicon Valley to show it off, pointing out that it can be plugged into your mp3 player, even cut with scissors.

Surprisingly strong for something that looks like it could blow away in the wind.

"You can cut any shape you like, and the performance still the same," explained Dr. Chan.

ITRI tells us it`s already talking with TV, computer, and phone makers about its ultra-thin speaker.

Too early to talk price, but this uses just a fraction of the energy of your current speakers, and that could save you money on your energy bill.

Not to mention how cool it could be, attached to your clothes and other cool possibilities.
